Eighty Years of Evolving with the Times
Founding, and Moving into Auto Related Businesses

Mitsuba Electric Mfg. Co., Ltd. was founded in Kiryu, Gunma Prefecture, in 1946. It started by producing generator lamps for bicycles. In Japan during the post-war rebuilding period, Mitsuba expanded its products into auto horns in 1951, then added wiper motors in 1956, thus entering auto related businesses. Mitsuba began a new history as a manufacturer of auto parts.

Growth, and Expansion into a Global Enterprise

As Japan entered its high economic growth period, Mitsuba tried its hand at the motorcycle business and the information systems business as well, thus pushing to expand our portfolio. In 1977, we had our initial public offering of stock. Our corporate value greatly increased during the Bubble era: in 1986, we founded our site in the United States, then in 1989 Mitsuba shares were finally listed in the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. In 1996 we changed our name to Mitsuba Corporation, and, with our new corporate image, we will leap ahead to the next stage of our growth.

Clarification of Corporate Philosophy, Formulation of Vision

With globalization and increased awareness of environmental issues, Mitsuba has clarified the values we have held since our founding. We announced the New Mitsuba Environmental Declaration and Guidelines for Action and established the MITSUBA WAY to systematize our Corporate Philosophy. In 2007, we expanded our business scale thanks to a merger with Jidosha Denki Kogyo Co., Ltd., and in 2017 we announced the Mitsuba Environmental Vision 2046.
