activities & points of evaluation |

The activities of an "evolving constitution of construction"
have continued to undergo dramatic advances based on the assumption that
this is a basic concept worthy of promotion. The first category of activities
intended to achieve recognition for an Award for Excellence deals with
a concentration on improvements in terms of independence and loss recoveries
of 1/2 as the plant strives to achieve a "sound foundation" for
its TPM activities. In the same light, the first category of activities
intended to achieve recognition for an Award for Continuous Excellence
includes the expansion and increased depth of TPM activities as efforts
continue to progress, and as the plant strives towards achieving improvements
in processing potential and the establishment of systems mechanisms that
lead to advances in terms of "establishment and completion".
The activities that are to be promoted in order to qualify for this Special
Award include overwhelming stock reductions through the evolution of production
reformation, the achievement of global costs standards, and the realization
of widely varied differences in quality.
Especially, at this time, in order to construct a line with equipment undergoing full operations 24 hours a day / 365 days a year, and with the aim for 0 losses, the plant employed a "Six-Zero" approach for its activities. Measures included the effective utilization of QA matrices, PM analyses, etc., led to the high appraisal for achieved improvements. |
|
| 2. |
Results of the activities |
|
| ・ |
Overall loss costs decreased by approximately 66% (for a period of 17 months) |
| ・ |
MTBF (mean time between failures) 4,264 hours. |
| ・ |
Equipment synthesis efficiency 90% |

The Introduction of a cogeneration system (CGS) into the Mitsuba Research
and Development Center
The Mitsuba Corporation continues to promote management activities designed
to emphasize the importance of the environmental problems that confront
us as a corporate enterprise. We would like to take this opportunity to
announce the introduction of a cogeneration system into our Research and
Development Center in the city of Kiryu. This is our second effort to employ
this system in our company facilities following our CGS introduction at
our Tone plant in June of last year.
Details of this introduction are as follows.
July 8, 2005
| 1. |
Details of introduction
|
|
As the environmental problems that we are faced with continue to become more acute, we are obliged to come to grips with the importance of this issue and carry out business activities designed to lessen our burden with regard to these problems. One of the more important problems that we must grasp and confront now is the reduction in carbon-dioxide emissions.
With respect to this particular problem, when inspections of the air condition equipment in our research and development center revealed certain parts of the equipment to be outmoded, we decided to introduce a cogeneration system into the center as a part of our efforts to update the air-conditioning system.
|
| 2. |
An outline of the system, building and equipment
|
|
 |
System outline |
|
On the grounds of the Research and Development Center site, a power generator
that uses gas as its source of fuel was installed, and the power generated
by this generator as well as waste energy is being utilized to operate
the local air-conditioning system. This led to a reduction in electricity
consumption of approximately 30% for the local air-conditioning system
at the center.

|
| 5. |
Anticipated results |
|
| ・ |
The amount of carbon-dioxide emissions discharged into the atmosphere from our Research and Development Center has been reduced (to approximately 390t by 13%). |
| ・ |
Thanks to the introduction of this cogeneration system, costs have been
reduced (approximately \1,176,000 by 1.1%). |
| ・ |
If any emergency situation arises at the Research and Development Center, it is now possible to maintain a certain amount of electric power. |
|
| 6. |
Future Plans |
|
Plans call for increased equipment to be utilized in the cold and hot water air conditioning system operated by this cogeneration system in our Research and Development Center. Also, after confirming the benefits of introducing this cogeneration system at this site, we will consider setting up similar systems at other Mitsuba sites. |
