party, to promote efficient use of shared
management resources. The capital alliance
will
establish a global supply system and develop
system products for newly evolving innovational
equipment mounted on automobiles.
This will improve our cost competitiveness,
and assure a stronger position as automotive
parts manufacturers with a global competitive
edge.
We expect to meet our customers' needs further
by a closer cooperation based on the alliance. |
|
2.Alliance
|
|
| (1) |
Comprehensive business alliance |

The purpose of our comprehensive alliance is to grow together as group
companies through synergies in technology, R&D, procurement, production,
and so forth. We shall confirm further details in the near future. |
|
|
| (2) |
MITSUBA's subscription for JIDECO's stock |
|
| Structure: |
MITSUBA is to subscribe for JIDECO's all
new shares allocated to a third party. |
| Numbers of shares: |
15,000,000 shares of common stock (or approx.
35.8%
of outstanding issues after the given third
party allocation) |
| Issue price: |

| Formula for issue price: |
Based on JIDECO's average final transaction
price ( 187.55) at the Tokyo
Stock Exchange for the latest one month to
the previous business day of the approval
to issue new shares at the board meeting
(or November 13, 2002 through December 12,
2002) with a discount rate of 9.89%. |
| After the above subscription, JIDECO shall
be a company to which MITSUBA's equity method
applies. |

Sales of solar car race motor to begin
During the past few years, a racing team
composed of members connected with
the Mitsuba Corporation has established an
very commendable list of
accomplishments in a variety of EV Eco Run
races. Also, through the
successful participation of this team in
these races, a strong appeal for
the distribution of the motors used by this
team has also developed. In
response to these requests, we are now pleased
to announce that the Mitsuba
Corporation will begin to sell these motors.
Details regarding the sale of
these motors are as follows.
November 15, 2002
|
1. Background
|
|
Through the development and distribution
of our company's motor system for
solar racing cars, the Mitsuba motor technology
and brand name has to come
to be recognized throughout the world through
these races. In order to
further generate the appeal of these motors,
we established an inner-company
project promoting their development on July
1, 2001.
Recently, we have been able to complete our preparations to offer these
motors on the market. On Saturday, November 9, our team made a special
appearance in the 2002 Workshop on Solar Cars & Solar Vehicles! on
the campus of Tamagawa University. The motors that will be offered on the
market were placed on exhibit and we made an official announcement that
they would now be available.
*The 2002 Workshop on Solar Cars & Solar Vehicles!. The Tamagawa University
team, one of the top teams in the field of solar cars in Japan, sponsors
this workshop and it is an oral session as well as a poster session event.
Leading teams from all over Japan participate in this workshop that is
held annually as panel discussions and research presentations are held
by a wide range of groups.
*Solar cars are cars fitted with electric
motors that our powered by the
rays of the sun that are transformed into
electricity and stored in a
storage cell.

ISO/TS16949 certification granted to an overseas
affilate company
We are pleased to announce that ISO/TS16949
certification has been granted
to Corporacion Mitsuba de Mexico S.A. DE
C.V., an overseas (Mexico)
affiliate of the Mitsuba Corporation. This
is the first time that any of the
companies within the Mitsuba Group has received
ISO/TS16949 certification.
The following is an outline of the events
leading up to this certification.
November 11, 2002
|
1. Background
|
|
In coordination with ISO9001, and with regard
to quality management system
standards designed for businesses related
to the automobile industry
throughout the world, the ISO/TS16949 standards
were originally published in
1999. Up until this time, the most popular
standards for the automobile
industry have been represented by the QS-9000
as determined by the Big Three
(American automobile manufacturers). However,
it has been decided to
abolish the QS-9000 from December 2006.
The current movement among western
automobile manufactures, including the Big
Three, is a trend towards
demanding ISO/TS16949 recognition among all
suppliers, and this trend is
rapidly picking up momentum.

5. Comments from MITSUBA regarding the race
|
|
Thanks to the results of the preliminaries
held the day before the race,
Team "Yoishoto!" Mitsuba was able to start
in the pole position in the
finals. Our car was able to pull away from
the pack immediately after the
race began as our pace continued to elevate.
After establishing our
"Yoishotto" pace, our lead continued to grow
lap by lap until we
eventually found ourselves just behind the
2nd place car. Our team was able
to maintain this lead throughout the race.
But in the final two laps, other
cars started to close in on us and, when
we crossed the finish line, our
lead had dwindled to a mere 5 meters. This
was enough, however, for us to
win the race.
As a result, Team "Yoishoto!" Mitsuba was
able to come away with the grand
prize in the 2002 WEMGP. By winning the
final round, and with the grand
prize, we feel that it has been a truly wonderful
year for all of the
members of our team and we are extremely
happy with their performance.
As defending champions and with the 2003
WEMGP now ahead of us, our team is
concentrating on the first round race to
be held in March in Osaka. We have
also received word from the WEM Headquarters
asking for our cooperation with
regard to the fuel cells to be used in the
EV Eco Run races. According to
WEM, they want to make the races ever more
friendly to the environment. An
agreement has also been reached with regard
to maintaining the current
"team policy" in order to encourage participants
to confront new
challenges in their efforts to create new
technologies. It now looks like
the cars that run in next year's Eco Run
races will be equipped with fuel
cells.
The members of Team "Yoishotto!" Mitsbua
would like to take this
opportunity to express their deep appreciation
to all of the people who have
supported the team and their efforts this
year. We are now preparing to
make our very best effort to defend our championship
in next year's WEMGP
2, and we look forward to your continuing
support and cooperation

4. Comments from MITSUBA regarding the race
|
|
This was the first time for Team "Yoishoto!"
Mitsuba to participate in this
competition, the 4th round of this year's
WEMGP. With its unique, 2-heat
organization, and the standardized batteries
made by different
manufacturers, with the number of batteries
reduced from 4 to 2, and the
time limit reduced from 2 hours to 1 hour,
our team found it necessary to
make many difficult adjustments and strategies.
In the first heat, where there were no restrictions
with regard to batteries
and motors, our specialized motor and powerful
batteries led to the foregone
conclusion of victory.
In the second heat, however, in which it
was assumed necessary to cover
approximately 34 km (14 laps), we were counting
on an average lap time of 4
minutes and 17 seconds. But when we completed
the first lap in only 4
minutes and 4 seconds, our pace was too high.
The time for the second lap
slowed to 4 minutes and 11 seconds, which
we felt was a much better pace for
the first part of the race. However, in
spite of this slower pacing, there
were no changes in the electrical current
settings, and the voltage began to
drop. Clearly this was a problem unique
to the batteries that were being
used in the car. By the time our pit crew
realized what was happening, it
was too late to make the necessary adjustments,
and our pace continued to
fall. As a result, the third place team
eventually passed us, since they
had been able to control its own electrical
current consumption more
successfully than we had.
With regard to the overall WEMGP competition,
our current point total finds
us still in first place as we prepare to
face our final challenge this
weekend on Saturday, November 2 and Sunday,
November 3, at the WEM in
Toyota.
We are all rooting for Team "Yoishoto!" Mitsuba
to win this first grand
championship.

4. Comments from MITSUBA regarding
the race
This year's race employed certain regulation
revisions, and the "marathon race"
previously included in the Category S was
altered from a 3-lap (93 km) course to an
endurance race covering a 5-hour run. Since
our team had no substitute riders, they were
only able to compete in the "High Speed
Contest".
The team has made much progress in the development
of their system since last year. Prior to
the start, a charge is sent from the batteries
to a super capacitor (high performance electrical
double layer condenser)as the motor approaches
the high revolution range, the batteries
are connected in a series in order to elevate
the power voltage and to achieve greater
extension in the higher speed ranges. Speeds
of over 100 km/h were recorded during test
runs enabling the team to confirm the reliability
of their system, which included wiring that
allowed for the switching to a higher current
of up to 400A. While the MITSUBA team was
able to win this race with a speed of 88.08
km/h, anticipations for next year's race
call for speeds exceeding 100 km/h as well
as the acquisition of technology that would
allow the utilization of lithium-ion batteries.
The team also is looking forward to competing
in next year's marathon race and achieving
the fastest time.
On the one hand, we were pleased to hear
requests for MITSUBA to
continue to sell the Eco-Run in-wheel DD
motors from many of the
participating teams and the sponsors. However,
since we intend to be able
to sell motors for solar cars next season,
it will not be feasible for us to
manufacture and sell Eco-Run motors since
they would belong to the same line
of products. But we do intend to give these
requests our serious
consideration in the future.
Finally, we are pleased to report that
our team will be participating in
the Tsukuba EV Eco-Run to be held on Sunday,
August 18 as well as the in the
EV Eco-Run in SUGO to be held on Saturday
and Sunday, August 24 and 25.
Both of these races serve are races sanctioned
by the WEM-GP (Grand Prix).
We are anticipating some very tough competition
as we aim for consecutive
victories this month.

4. Comments from MITSUBA regarding the race
After consecutive victories in the 1999 and
2000 races, our team lost to the Team Super
Energy (Fuji Heavy Industries, Ltd), Ironically,
it was carrying motors provided by MITSUBA.
the Honda Engineering team and the ZDP (Nakayoshi).
Keenly feeling the importance of the car
body aerodynamics, the car used in this year's
race was outfitted with a new body and renamed
the "HyperUSO800".
The competition among these powerful teams
was intense all the way from the start to
the finish of the race. All eyes were riveted
on the rapid gains near the end of the race
of the "Aqua", running for the
Honda Engineering EVER-BLUE team. After completing
its 13th lap, our Team "Yoishoto!"
Mitsuba went on to run another 750 meters
to establish a lead of approximately 1 km
over the Aqua.
We feel that one of the major
factors in our
victory was the aerodynamic
efficiency of the new body.
Wind resistance on
this new body was 40% less
than that of our previous
entry when running at
40 km/h. Furthermore, at
an
output of 60W, we were able
to achieve an
additional 4 km/h. These
factors
led to the establishment
of a new record in this
year's race. Another
major factor were some major
improvements in the
drive system and the motor
that helped the driver maintain
his composure
throughout the race.
As of this year, the name EV Eco-run has
been changed to WEM GRAND PRIX and it is
to consist of a series of 5 races to be held
over the course of the year. Cars will compete
for a "Champion of the Year" award
based upon total finish points. This competition
was the first of 5 to be held this year,
and with our recent victory, we are all eagerly
anticipating the possibility that the first
"Champion of the Year" trophy will
go to Team "Yoishoto!" Mitsuba.
For further information regarding
this race
is available on the WEM Official
website.

The Introduction of a "Second Life"
Support System
We would like to take this
opportunity to
announce the establishment,
start up and
execution of our "Second
Life" Support
System. This system will
serve as a link in the
chain of a new Mitsuba personnel
system designed
to activate our services
for employees currently
on the job.
Details of the system are
as follows.
February 7, 2002
1.
The Introduction of the System
With the arrival of the rapid
aging of our
society, there is an increase
in the request for
companies to extend their
age limits for
employees. On the one hand,
the provisions of
public pensions advance step
by step. In such an
environment, Mitsuba has
established and
introduced a new personnel
system designed to
stimulate employee activation.
As a link in this
chain, and from the perspective
of activating
talented individuals, we
have given serious
consideration to methods
that might allow us to
take full advantage of the
skills and talents
accumulated throughout the
lengthy career
experiences of our employees.
These
considerations included discussions
with the
labor union of our company
and we are now
considering a continuation
of employment for
employees up to the age of
65. Also, as stated
above, we have decided to
establish what we call
our "Second Life"
Support System.
One of our affiliates, the
Ability Staff Service
Co., Ltd. (a personnel activation
company), will
serve as the core of this
system as we strive to
put it into practice as we
strive to promote
personnel activation throughout
the entire
Mitsuba Group.
2.
The Aim of This Introduction
By introducing this system,
our aims are to make
