Mitsuba considers the preservation of the global environment as an important task and continuously performs its development, production and other activities with an emphasis on environmental preservation. Its environment management system has been secured through the establishment of the Mitsuba Environment Conference to ensure that all preservation efforts are strengthened throughout the company and that company standards stricter than legal regulations are established. Mitsuba is determined to mobilize the efforts of the whole group by expanding these activities to overseas sites as well.
The Mitsuba Environmental Declaration
We will work to achieve a continuous harmonization with our natural environment by means of technical developments harmonized with society and the environment. We will work to realize a safe and plentiful environment for us all. Mitsuba will endeavor to save resources and energy in all its corporate activities, including development, production and sales. Mitsuba will endeavor to reduce waste materials and polluting substances as well as achieve correct processing of those materials. Directions for Action
We will attempt to make sparing and effective use of limited resources. We will endeavor to save on energy in our corporate activities, in order to fulfill our corporate responsibilities with regard to global warming. We will endeavor to find substitutes for ozone-destroying substances in order to protect the ozone layer. We will manage chemical substances properly and use abolition of harmful chemical substances including not using it for our products. We will establish an environmental management system and endeavor to observe in-company regulations that are stricter than public laws. We will positively participate in social activities relating to the environment.
Environmental Preservation Activities
Compliance with the EU chemical regulations
To ensure the procurement of ecological materials that reduce the burden on our environment, we have issued Mitsuba Green Purchasing Guidelines and asked our suppliers for their cooperation. We also promote compliance with EU's new Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH). With regard to future regulations dealing with chemical substances, we have introduced environmentally harmful substance data management system (M_eco II). The employment of this system has been designed to compile and efficiently utilize product and environment data for the designing of ecological products.
Energy Conservation Activities
Mitsuba Kyoto Protocol Achievement Plan
The first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol began in April 2008. Based on the Japan Auto Parts Industries Associations voluntary environmental action plan, Mitsuba continues to strive for a reduction of its CO2 emission by 7% from the 1990 levels in the five years from 2008 to 2012 through the establishment of the Mitsuba Kyoto Protocol Achievement Plan and the promotion of its own measures in all relevant fields including production equipment, production, and logistics. Furthermore, with regard to the objective of reaching a level of reduction by the year 2020 that is 25% below the level for 1990, we continue to make progress through our response to and visions of a wide range of aspects including development, production capacity, production, distribution, etc., through our mid- and long-term undertakings.
Energy saving through rooftop gardening
Mitsuba has introduced a rooftop planting and gardening system for the purpose of reducing CO2 emissions. The system reduces energy used for air conditioning by moderating room temperature increases in the summer and decreases in the winter.
Research and Development of Products in Consideration of Environmental Stress Reduction
Mitsuba continues to remain actively involved in achieving the highest levels of efficiency as a maker of electrical components and products already available, as well as a maker of products newly released on the markets. It also strives to achieve the reduction of the use of hazardous chemical substances, from the developmental phases to improved mileage, energy conservation, resource conservation (through compact, lightweight construction), Mitsuba continues to remain actively involved in achieving the highest levels of efficiency.
Mitsuba continues to carry out the development and sales of motors for solar racecars and for eco-run cars utilizing our advanced motor technology. Since 2006, Mitsuba has experienced growth and advancement through its cooperative efforts with firms involved in the Solar Car Race Suzuka, an event that promotes environmental awareness competitions. Last year, 70% of the 86 cars participating in this race were mounted with Mitsuba motors. Also, a car representing Tokai University and outfitted with a Mitsuba motor won a race across the continent of Australia that is considered the worlds highest echelon of solar car racing.
Electrical power steering motors
Thanks to exceptionally powerful magnets and optimal magnetic circuitry, MItsuba has been able to develop a compact, high output, low noise brushless electronic power steering motor with a significantly improved torque-to-weight ratio.
Wiper motors
The initial adoption of an optimal design of a 4 pole wiper motor utilizing an electromagnetic circuit and double reduction gearing has led to the development of the worlds lightest, smallest and most efficient wiper motor.
